About us

Doodle and Hum are a creative duo brought together by a shared love of brilliant children’s books and songs. Simon, a musician and singer-songwriter, started writing and recording songs at home to entertain and educate his children. He’d always dreamed of bringing them to life with illustrations. Then came Camilla, a sculptor and illustrator with a knack for silliness and fun.

Together, they make super-catchy songs and hilarious, playful illustrations. They hope their creations bring smiles to little faces and maybe inspire a few little ones to pick up an instrument or pencil of their own.

Simon Gledhill
Singer/songwriter

Simon Gledhill is a singer-songwriter and professional musician who writes and performs as Lean with the Breeze. He lives in Newhaven, UK, with his family.

Simon began writing songs for children after creating “Whose Knees?”, a joyful ditty about the bee’s knees and other wacky idioms. His daughter had just been born, and he wanted to make songs and stories she could enjoy with her friends. Around the same time, he was running sing-along sessions for toddlers and playing Christmas gigs with his band, the Navidads. He loved how music brought people together and wanted to build on that by creating books that encourage children to sing and make music.

He crowdfunded his first children’s book, Whose Knees? on Kickstarter and has been dreaming up new ideas ever since. With lots of children’s songs already written, Simon began imagining how he could bring them to life as books and create a whole world around them. With the help of Camilla Barnard, that idea grew into Doodle and Hum.
